About Mary
I’m a voiceover artist and author ready to collaborate with producers and authors to bring stories to life. I train to learn new genres, get feedback, maintain vocal health, and create a great listening experience for my audience.
I live in So Cal wine country where I volunteer for my son’s school activities, attend book clubs, and relax at my favorite locals’ secret wineries. At Aspen Institute’s Food & Society program, I’m a senior program manager responsible for a live webinar series and social media content. I ran a PR firm for 15 years. We focused on higher education, healthcare, nonprofits, and small food businesses. I am also a multi published novelist and currently working on a cozy mystery series. I got bit by the voiceover bug when, out of envy, I wanted to bring my novels into audio. I applied my video and film production background to produce the audio myself, and as a result, won an award. Ever since, word of mouth has spread around the campfire and independent authors hired me to bring their series and single titles into audio!
An area I’m keen to expand is audio description. Three of my family members, one of whom taught me to read, are experiencing irreversible low vision. They love books, movies, and TV. Audiobooks (not just mine, of course!) and audio description services have given them back joy of story in all its forms. I can’t wait to step into this kind of service to the world.
When I’m not in my booth, I’m exploring hiking trails, growing some form of vegetable in the garden, cooking new and favorite recipes, or knitting. I’m becoming an empty nester and although I’m not thrilled about it, I’m excited about having more time to write, narrate, and attend conferences!
I’m available to work with independent authors and publishers directly or through ACX & Findaway Voices.

Praise
“I received many auditions, and I chose Mary Castillo to narrate as I immediately felt she captured the spirit of the book. It was not an easy task: a lengthy volume with many characters from different places. Her accents, intonations and interpretation of them were brilliant, and she brought the book to life. Mary always read with cognizance of the scene and presence. The tone, pace, rhythm and style were just right. I was so delighted with the reading that I asked her to work with me again on another project! The quality audio recording was excellent, and any requested modifications made to the narration were done swiftly and perfectly.”
